Welcome to Aztec Mexico – it is 1513AD!
Mural showing Aztec city of Tenochtitlan. Photo by Wolfgang Sauber.
You are standing in a wide street amongst stone and earth coloured buildings. It is hot and steamy and the sun is beating down on your hair. Brightly coloured tropical birds are flying above you amid lush greenery rising over walls. When you climb up some steep stone steps you see that you are on a large island in the middle of a lake. In a shimmer of heat you can see paths leading out across the lake onto the mainland far away.
On the outskirts of the city there are fields growing crops and you can see a network of canals with brown skinned people in canoes travelling and carrying bundles of plants in them. Other people are wandering along long wide avenues towards the centre of the city, some of them wearing red cloaks and brightly coloured feathers on their head.
What would you like to do now?
